Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the “Exact Solutions in Quantum Information: Entanglement, Topology, and Quantum Circuits” workshop in Banff from February 9 - 14, 2025.

Quantum information science (QIS) directs itself to forms of computing and information processing that subvert classical bounds by exploiting quantum mechanical superposition and entanglement. Because of the appearance of first-generation quantum computers, so called noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, quantum information science has received intense attention from the physics, mathematical, computer science, and chemistry communities. However, such NISQ devices are extremely limited in their capabilities. This workshop is devoted to providing the theoretical and mathematical underpinnings by which these limitations can be circumvented. To do so it will engage a wide ranging community of theoretical and mathematical physicists. Beyond the traditional research presentations, it will offer a short course aimed at early career researchers as well as a lecture aimed at the general public.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada’s Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Alberta’s Advanced Education and Technology.
