Description
The Chennai Mathematical Institute will host the "Quivers in Representation Theory" workshop in Chennai, India from November 30 to December 5, 2025.
Representation Theory is a branch of mathematics studying abstract algebraic objects by simulating them using matrices, a language which is common in engineering and science. It has applications to several different areas like analysis, number theory, geometry, combinatorics as well as theoretical physics. One particular aspect of representation theory is the notion of quiver representations, studying various dependencies of interconnected arrows. Quiver theory, although originally introduced only to study some limited aspects of algebra, has found its ways into various areas of mathematics as well into theoretical physics.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together leading international experts in representation theory, and to connect the local mathematical community to the various aspects of quiver theory, thus sowing the seeds of future interdisciplinary research.
The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) in Chennai, India, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Alberta's Advanced Education
