The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) will host the "Complex Creeping Fluids: Numerical Methods and Theory" workshop from October 1st to October 6th, 2017.

Complex fluids like polymer flows, bacterial flows, blood, and particulate flows appear in science, engineering, and medicine. In many of these applications, because the length and velocity scales are small, the flow is assumed to be creeping. Over the last 25 years, there has been an influx of both theory and numerical methods for simulating such complex flows. The goal of this workshop is to bring together world-renowned experts that develop theory, numerical and stochastic methods, statistical methods, and software for simulating complex creeping fluids.

The Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry.

The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT). The research station in Oaxaca is funded by CONACYT.
