Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Rigorous Numerics for Infinite Dimensional Nonlinear Dynamics (HALF)" workshop from May 7th to May 12th, 2017.

Nonlinear dynamics shape the world around us, from the harmonious movements of celestial bodies, via the swirling motions in fluid flows, to the complicated biochemistry in the living cell. Mathematically these beautiful phenomena are modelled by nonlinear dynamical systems, mainly in the form of ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and delay differential equations. This workshop focuses on tightly integrating abstract mathematics with computer simulations to improve our fundamental understanding of the complex nonlinear phenomena displayed by these mathematical models.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides
an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disc
iplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineeri
ng Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional
de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
