Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Operations in Highly Structured Homology Theories" workshop from May 22nd to May 27th, 2016.
Algebraic Topology studies geometric properties which are unchanged by continuous deformations by assigning algebraic invariants which can be used study the geometry. While the basic idea is relatively straightforward, the subject has become highly technical in its development during much of the twentieth century, and the aims of this workshop centre around internal structural issues. Although this may seem very abstract and theoretical, topological properties have wide applicability throughout Mathematics and subjects such as Theoretical Physics. This meeting will bring together world leading mathematicians working in the subject area as well as many younger mathematicians who are expected to contribute to it in the near future.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT)..
