Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "International Math Outreach Workshop" workshop from November 22nd to November 27th, 2015.
Some 40 mathematics experts from all over the world will gather at the BIRS research center for a 5-day workshop to share their experience in reaching out to kids to show them that mathematics is a lively topic and that it offers many interesting challenges. The participants will establish the best strategies for showing to kids, to their parents and to the general public that mathematics is very important in today's society, that it helps us to better understand the world we live in, that it is essential for the good of our economy and that it contributes to improving our quality of life.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
