Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the “Women in Numbers” (WIN) workshop next week, November 2 - November 7, 2008. The purpose of the workshop is to highlight the research of female number theorists. One aim is to introduce female graduate students to potential advisers, collaborators, and thesis problems. A more long-term objective is to increase the participation of women in research activities in number theory and related areas of applications.

As part of this workshop, we will set up a network of the participants. This will include hosting a web page with information on female number theorists from different categories. We will also have links to (male and female) advisers, collaborators, and co-organizers of conferences to try to increase the connectivity and inclusiveness of the community.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
