Bioinformatics, Genetics and Stochastic Computation: Bridging the Gap (07w5079)

(Paris Dauphine University)

Description

Some of the most famous specialists of bioinformatics, genetics and stochastic computation will meet at the Banff International Research sStation on July 1-6, 2007. This event is organized by statisticians from the Universities of British Columbia and Paris Dauphine: Arnaud Doucet, Raphael Gottardo and Christian P. Robert. The objective of this interdisciplinary workshop is to bridge the gap between the bioinformatics, genetics and statistics communities. There has been indeed an explosion of the use of complex statistical models in bioinformatics and genetics whose ultimate goals include the development of personalized medical treatments and genetic therapy. However these powerful models remain very difficult to exploit currently and require the development of powerful stochastic computation techniques. This workshop will create an exceptional opportunity for exchanging ideas between the specialists of stochastic computation and scientists from bioinformatics and genetics and will help to shape the future of these disciplines.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
