The BIRS workshop was incredible: it brought together a group of people who would not have otherwise met, helped coalesce a shared perspective and agenda for an interdisciplinary area, informed my own research questions, and helped me start new collaborations. I regard it as perhaps the single most productive academic event I have attended.
