Proposal Submission Form - Step 1/3

Proposals for 5-day workshops are due October 2nd, 2020.

Proposals for 2-day workshops, Research in Teams, Focused Research Groups must be submitted at least 4 months before their intended start date.

Do not use this form to resubmit the proposal for your already accepted 2020 workshop. Previously accepted proposals for the 2020 program that were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic should use this form to re-submit for consideration in 2021 or 2022.

Please read the Guidelines for Proposals before submitting. The online form does not have a saving feature. Please save it offline, work on it on your computer, and then submit it here when it is ready.

LaTeX math-mode and formulae are OK. Enclose LaTeX with these delimiters: $...$ or $...$ for in-line math, and \[...\] or $$...$$ for displayed equations. Please do not use preambles or \document{} tags. Include any custom macros in the Overview field, and they will apply everywhere. All proposals will be compiled into a single book using LaTeX2e. Please do not use other mark-up languages such as HTML. The character encoding we use is UTF-8, so international characters like é, ö, á, etc., may be used, and are preferable to their LaTeX equivalents.

- Preferred dates: 5-Day Workshops must select 3-5 preferred dates and up to 2 impossible dates.
- Preferred workshop location (Banff, Oaxaca, Hangzhou).
- Number of participants (21 or 42 for 5-Day Workshops).
- Your contingency plans for possible hybrid physical/virtual workshops, should in-person meetings not be possible.
- Your plans for a detailed program structure.
- An optional comment field.
The third step is a review of what will be submitted, with the final submission button.

We strongly recommend that you write your proposal offline, and then copy & paste your work into the web form. It is a very basic web form, with no auto-save. Only when the submit button on the last (3rd) step is pressed will your data be sent to BIRS and saved.

Online submission for 2022 Summer School and 5-day workshop programmes is now closed. BIRS will be accepting proposals for the 2023 competition in Summer 2021.

5-Day Workshops and Summer Schools require a minimum of 2, and a maximum of 4 organizers per proposal. In accordance with BIRS' commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), the organizing committee should contain at least one early-career researcher within ten years of their doctoral degree. For applications with two organizers, at least one member of the organizing committee must be from an under-represented community in STEM disciplines. For applications with three or more organizers, at least two members of the organizing committee must be from an under-represented community in STEM disciplines.

Participants

A list of potential participants and their affiliations is important to the review process. The Programme Committee looks favourably on participant lists where there is an indication that the participants have been contacted and have expressed interest in the proposal.
