Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Rank Conjectures in Algebraic Topology and Commutative Algebra" workshop in Banff from September 11 - 16, 2022.

Commutative algebraists and algebraic topologists have made recent exciting advances on a set of decades-old conjectures that are of central importance in both fields. These conjectures concern lower bounds on total ranks of homology and have already spawned a lot of interesting mathematics in both fields, mostly independent of each other.

This workshop aims to recreate a strong dialogue between these groups to foster exchange of methods and approaches to these problems and to develop long-term working relationships to make more progress in the future.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
