Description

The "Women's Workshop on Communications and Signal Processing" workshop will be hosted at The Banff International Research Station.

Women are significantly underrepresented in most engineering disciplines, with even fewer women in visible senior leadership roles, e.g., full and chaired professors, Editors-in-Chief, Distinguished Lecturers, members of the Board-of-Governors of their professional society. Although the number of women in these positions has - with concerted effort - grown, it is still too small. In 2011, the largest percentage of women ever were elevated to IEEE Fellow. Yet the 29 selected still represent less than 10% of the total.

The Women's Workshop on Communications and Signal Processing provides a venue where younger women communications and signal processing engineers can meet female role models who are IEEE Fellows, full professors, Editors-in-Chief and active volunteers within their professional society. Recent results in Communications and Engineering by women at all stages of their careers will be presented and discussed. This is an opportunity for young female research engineers in Communications and Signal Processing to learn how to achieve their professional goals from women who have been there.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
