Arvind Gupta

Arvind Gupta was named the 13th President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia on March 12, 2014. A professor of Computer Science at UBC since 2009, he is a well-regarded expert in research and innovation policy with a proven record of accomplishment in building meaningful research collaborations.

From 2000 to 2014, he was the Scientific Director and CEO of MITACS, a national research network which connects academia, industry and the public sector to develop cutting-edge tools for Canada’s knowledge-based economy. Dr. Gupta obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 1991, and is a Professor at the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining MITACS, Dr. Gupta helped found the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences. He is the editor of two book series on industrial mathematics and is currently the President of the 2011 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He is also the founder of the widely acclaimed Accelerate Canada and Global Link programs.
